No more tax discs!

Posted on

It was announced last week that, from 1 October 2014, we will no longer require to display a paper tax disc on our vehicles.  Vehicle tax will obviously still require to be paid but as the DVLA have a digital record of who has or hasn't paid, a paper disc is no longer necessary proof.

It will also be possible to spread the cost of your tax via a monthly direct debit, albeit at a 5% surcharge.

This could be good news for ‘velogolists’ (collectors of expired tax discs).  The rarity of discs will  increase, so check your glove box now!  Apparently the world record was the sale of a very rare March 1923 tax disc for £651.90!  (source www.velology.com)
